Therapy Dog: A volunteer dog-handler team that visits others to provide comfort and companionship. Service Dog: A dog specially trained to assist one individual with a disability. Emotional Support Animal: A companion animal prescribed to provide emotional support to its owner. NOTE: If a Member misrepresents that their therapy dog is a service or assistance dog, they’ve violated PAWS Therapy Tean Rules and Regulations and they’ve put their membership and the integrity of PAWS at risk.

No. Therapy dogs do not have the same legal access privileges as service dogs. They may enter facilities only when participating in approved therapy visits.

PAWS Therapy Team therapy work is intended as volunteer service. Insurance coverage applies only during approved volunteer visits and does not extend to dogs accompanying handlers during their normal workday.
